I have a couple of Delta tools their 13" planer and a drill press, both are decent tools. Delta puts out good stuff some things are better than others. As for the chop saw I like the Makita and Bosch line. So not much help for you, but look into Makita or Bosch. Jeff
I have the Makita LS1013...and a Delta 10" CMS. Just curious about the newer 12" Delta. Thanks.

Which Delta planer have you got? Does it work well and is it easy to change blades? I'm looking at either the $400 Delta or the $500 DeWalt.
I have the model 22-540 which is like the first of the 12" home owner (weekend woodworker) type planers. It works great I can't remember but it must be 8-10 years old, it does snipe the end just a bit but the newer model have taken care of that. I have actually never changed the blades, and it has seen plenty of use. I think I am afraid it may be a PITA because of all the stories you hear of changing knives.
I can't remember what the latest tests say about planers but I think that Dewalt is a decent one, I know the newer Delta is suppose to be nice too.
Good Luck Jeff
Yeah I looked at that saw--nice unit--Check the weight--IIRC around 45 # , I am in and out of houses all the time so #'s were a big deal to me--
I have the DW705--under 40#--the Bosch 12" is a little heaver than the Delta I think--
Haven't had any field time with the Delta--just play time in the showroom.
Porter-Cable has a close cousin of that saw--Dual lasers and slide out extentions were on the PC.
Let me know if you get it-how it works out for ya.
How's the son? Well I hope..

Hi Mike,
So what do you think? Would you buy that saw over your Dewalt if you were in the market for a 12" today? Just looking for input. I think it looks like a pretty cool saw...haven't had the opp to play w/it yet.
Son's doing better this school year...getting adjusted a bit I spec. Thanks for asking. Hows your youngin doing? Keeping you runnin I bet! Take care bro!

that is a tough one--I have 5+ with my 705 and all I have had to do is feed it juice and blades--guess I'm to far out of the present buying phase to be much of any serious help.I Just know that weight was a biggie for me which is why the 705 came up high on the looking list--there are features out on todays saws that I would surely love but till it dies I can't justify having a third saw.My other is a 10 year old 10" Hitachi and it has been real reliable also--Heard at the 7Corners show (local hardware store for the trades) that DW is revamping their mitre saw line, Noah is almost 11 months and on the verge of free walking--guess he figures if his siblings can walk why shouldn't he--It is fun to watch him learn from them---I am glad your boy is better--Mike" I reject your reality and substitute my own"

Never used one, so take it for what it's worth, I have seen them in the store and played around with it, I think for the money you can do better
I have two the dewalt 708 "portable my ####" I love the quality & capacity of the cuts, but damn that thing is awkward to move around.
I also inherited a Bosch 10"sliding compound b3915 a lot lighter & easier to move around I use them both extensively.
Unless your cutting monster boards or large crown I suggest a 10" over a 12".
I also noticed I don't spend nearly as much on blades & sharpening with the 10" over the 12", but hey that's just me.
hhhmmm I see planers compound miter saws & sliding compound miter saws maybe I should check more before I post

I went to the home depot website and they showed the new Delta 12". Going to the big box was a waste of time! They didn't have it...matter of fact they didn't have ONE Delta saw in stock. The salesman told me to go to Lowes, which I did. Only one Delta in stock...a lame homeowner model for $99 bucks...and that's it!
Still wanting to play with it and possibly buy one. It has several inovative (patent pending) features. It looks to be a really good saw.

Like a couple of people have pointed out, Lots of playtime in the showroom, but haven't cut anything with it yet. I'm looking at upgrading my delta 10" (one with upfront controls, dual bevel and belt drive) and the 412 is the one that I like. Don't need the extra weight of a Slider, but do need an increased cut capacity, so the 412 seems like the ideal saw. I'm just waiting a little longer, as there are a couple of other purchases ahead of the saw.

JT,
Where have you seen this saw? Blows and Home depot neither carry it in my area. I have seen it on the home depot website however. Let me know where you played with it! Thanks.
Dez
My Sears of all places had one in stock and on the floor. I only went in there to trade some tape measures in and wandered over to the returned tool area, and they had the 412 in. Jeremy
Thanks JT.
