I typically use Benjamin Moore, but my wife picked out a Ralph Lauren color. I have never used Ralph’s paint and I was wondering what everyone’s opinion of it was. If it isn’t any good, I could always color match it, but I was just wondering. It is a dark color, probably flat, going over flat, off white drywall.
Thanks-

Grasshopper,
Always remember the single most important quality of paint.
It makes the wife happy.

Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either. [Einstein] Tks, BossHogg.
I only used it once, it seemed to watered down to me, it ran more then other paints, didn't have as much as body.
I'd not use it again myself.
what i have heard is it is good for glazes and washes,
if you want hiding, opaque coverage it is not your paint.
great for fancy techniques.
I'm a handyman and painter. I use Benjamin Moore almost exclusively. I'm sure there are many other good paints out there (such as Sherwin Williams), but I've never used Ralph Lauren.
If a customer wanted a color from a brand of paint that I don't use, I would color match it in Benjamin Moore. If they had already purchased the paint, I MIGHT use it, but I would be very reluctant. I've been mildly burned using lesser quality paints and I prefer to stick with what I know.
We used Ralf Lauren paint on a house a few years back. The woman I built it for ended up marrying me. Better watch out.
No problems with the paint so far. The girl is terrific.
Perfect valentine post. Show her and you are probably off the hook for buying chocolate and flowers.
why use it? its garbage. take the sample to your benny moore dealer and have the tint the matte finish to your color. the ralph paint runs like a deer.
a tenant used some that i was going to recoat because it did not cover well. the leftovers he had were like water..no body. when i took the RL chip to lowes to colormatch in a better paint, they refused, saying RL had a patent on that color. sounded fishy, but i got good paint in a close color and covered it up.
I almost ended up in a fist fight over the same deal at a Lowes. I used the RL to paint at my mother-in-laws. I made it into town late and ended up at Lowes with the MIL, tried to get it mixed in some other paint they had, can't remember the brand.
Long story short me and the paint guy end up in an argument because I asked to see where it said they had a patten on the color... One thing ended to another and I ended up almost getting kicked out, by time I left I felt like choking the idiot with his apron.
I walked out, my MIL decided to stick around buy the paint, I told I'd take the color chip in the morning to a BM store, or if she really had to have it tonight we could go to HD and mix it in Baer.
colour patent!!!LOL....are they serious??? imagine the patent infringement litigation... heads up all Breaktime attorneys!!
I would stay away from RL paint and have the colour matched a "real" paint store.

My experience, which was not recent, was that it was more style than substance. Or, great charts but poor covering paint.
Take the color to a better paint.
Worst paint I've ever used - way too thin (like water) to get any coverage without at least three coats. Ralphie needs to stick to ties and boxers...
I've done a lot of painting and know a few pro painters and the main thing I've learned is you stick with Benjamin Moore and you don't have any problems. Lately I've also used some Sherwin Williams and would consider it a close second (although I feel guilty for cheating on Ben).
Most of the paint store's computers (if they're up to date) can recall another brand's formula and produce the same color. I've gotten BM paint using Sherwin Williams, Behr, and other manufacturer's color numbers.

Unlike many of the other posters we have had very good luck with RL paints, at least the latex wall paints. Have never used it for trim. The colors are excellent. I usually use Benjamin Moore from a pro-oriented paint retailer, so I felt somewhat candy-a$$ buying RL at HD. Wear shades and a raincoat.
