Trying to decide on a vent hood for the new house, the Zephyr wall-mount hoods look like a good value compared to some of the other brands we have looked at. The rest of the appliances will be Kitchen Aid and Bosch in stainless, but the vent hoods from those brands seem ridiculously high priced in comparison to the other appliances.
Anyone installed on of these hoods or have any experiences to share??
Thanks!

I bought and installed a ZML90G island hood in a client's house. It hangs from the ceiling and has a 2-piece telescoping duct cover that makes up the distance to the ceiling. Pretty good looking item. Cost about $1500.
First thing I realized was that I could not determine from the instructions where to rough in the duct in the ceiling, so I bought the unit during framing and got it out of the box to figure it out. Installation was straightforward although when sparky wired it up he had to make some adjustment to the internal wiring to get it to work. When it came time to install the trim it took two guys to hold the lower section up while a third guy drove some screws.
One of the duct cover pieces came with a slight ding in it. The company replaced it no questions asked when I called them. Even the slightest ding will show.
We had some killer wind a week or two ago. Client reports that the backdraft damper rattles slightly. We had some less than killer winds before that and she said there was no sound.
Have a Zephyr ZTA waiting to be installed. Dual fans are quiet and it looks well built. It has 4 key shaped holes for mounting under a cabinet. The filter area is large and I think its a great buy. Got it someplace on E bay.
Depends on your cooking.
Stir-fry, curry, generally stinky and burnt, or boiled spuds and veg.
You will definitely get what you pay for.
I had my stainless steel island hood custom made, based on restaurant specs, and love it. It removes all odours. 600 cfm or more, can't recall.
Know your needs and do not backdraft your combustion appliances.
Oh yeah, do not buy the crappy SS mesh screens. Go for alum. baffles. Last forever and better airflow and easier to clean as opposed to ultimately disposable and expensive screens.

Installed one this past spring. If you don't have solid blocking behind area, think about putting some in. The keyhole mounts are semi covered by all the #### up in there. Since we had no blocking in, drilled out new mounting holes and they worked well. Do not rely on the included hollow wall anchors (or their screws either for that matter. Somebody named Phillips did not make them.
Overall width (if mounting tight between two cabs) is nominal-might have to grease sides or use shoe horn.
this unit would be killer with a remote fan-it's not real quiet while operating.
This customer wanted a full metal splash above and behind with granite splash below. They had experience with brushed aluminum from a local concern. Used it and it does look pretty darn close to ss. Templated and installed as an after thought.

Thanks for the input - I will be mounting on a wall w/o cabinets but I'm surprised the dimensions were not spot on. Will be going over all the rooms this weeked to insu install blocking and check studs again.Do you recall what model you installed? I am a little concerned about the noise but I believe we will rarely use the full 600cfm in our house. I have a grill and smoker outside for the "real" cooking ;)
homowner supplied the hood along with the rest of the appliance package. I'll hunt up for a picture-not even sure Zephyr is the one, but the name and description (slide adj. duct cover etc) sounds like it.
