opinions please, t and g cieling toook a soaking from above
Hey all, we recentlly installed and painted about 400 sq ft of 1×4 beadboard on a porch cieling.
Long story short re roof process left roof oopen during deluge from mother nature.
Porch rooftook rain from above roof and its’ own surface without waterproofing complete,
Painted cieling swelled, buckled and spit out two rows of material. there are several rows tht sepereated.
Remove/replace remove/clean nails/reinstall try to push back together in place, face nail and fill nail holes
Opinions please……..Yes , sequencing may have been off a bit, that is known and not up for discussion.
Thanks! Jim at Great White

I would take down and replace with new.
you should at the very least, allow the ceiling to dry out completely before attempting a repair. To get a proper re installation you will need to remove all the cieiling on one side of the buckel/separation. If minimal buckeling doesnt bother you then face nailing may be an option for you.
I'd wait and see. Wood can take a real beating and still come out okay. Give it a month to dry out then access the damage. It may not be as bad as it looks now. Nothing to lose, lots to gain.
At the very least, don't seal it up tight right away. Leave out some pieces (and, if necessary, take out some more) to assure that the entire space can dry out. Give it a month, at least, maybe 2-3.
Sequencing was not the only thing off. Many projects mix proper sequencing for a multitude of reasons (sub availablity, weather, draw schedules, etc.) What was off was taking precautions to avoid damage due to poor sequencing.
You asked.
nuts! really!
I did mention the poor sequencing, and in the same sentence noted that it was not up for discussion.
I like how you have your own agenda, which is to pour salt on the wound of a fellow tradesman who was only asking advice on one aspect of his problem. You must have a real bu....................................................
