Other “green” building forums?

porkchop | Posted in Energy, Heating & Insulation on May 8, 2008 12:50pm

Doesn’t seem like this part of the forum gets alot of traffic. Anyone have any favorite other sites for green building discussion?

A couple, but what's your particular interest?

I mostly do residential remodeling; I've got alot of clients interested in energy efficiency and less toxic materials.

Some YahooGroups that might interest you.  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/organic_architecture/?yguid=292352653 I read.  Another is Small Houses, the list owner is an interesting guy, house designer.  Likely others that I'm unaware of.  Look through the listings.

My interest is primarily new construction, a web page on my place provides a steady trickle of interest.  It's part of a forum dedicated to passive heating/cooling.  Guy in Georgia just found it, is ready to start his PAHS this month.  Coincidentally, remarkably similar to what I live in.

Toxic usually is outgassing.  I stress ventilation.

        Happy hunting.PAHS works. Bury it.

          And what's that address, Tom?http://grantlogan.net/

But you all knew that.  I detailed it extensively in my blog.

Surprised you never saw it.  One of our BT handlers decided it was my web page and put it in my profile.  Not that I was responsible for it being available, that's from a guy sponsoring a forum on passive heating/cooling after we exchanged a number of emails.  The forum's sporadically active, often from somebody finding that page:

            http://paccs.fugadeideas.org/tom/index.shtml

Now if I could just figure out how to change signatures....  Got tired of looking at Sphere's ahole statement.PAHS works. Bury it.

Thanks - very cool. I'd seen some of the pix on the site, but not the whole thing. Got it bookmarked now.http://grantlogan.net/

Thank you.  Original plan was as my future furniture shop (high ceiling, open space).  Zoning here only allows 1500 ft² for business.  Long driveway to the mountaintop, lovely forest, interesting studio.  Seemed like good marketing.  And everybody should have a nice place to work, no?

Replacement house is started, hope I have a concrete crew organized for June.  It'll get the features we didn't have the money for here: guest suite, indoor pool, large garage, sound-isolated office...

This much land is a real luxury.  So long as they don't tax us off it.

Gary linked that page on his incredible solar site.  Probably found it searching PAHS, like everybody else.  I get 3-4 requests/yr to build.  Last one was near Minneapolis.  PAHS works. Bury it.

That was the ill-fated cupola for the lumber shed, remember?  One of my many screwups with that building.  At least the copper didn't leak.  Or blow off.

Pretty sure I'll never build another anything that requires heating.

Speaking of the lumber shed.  You got any use for a couple hundred SIPS splines?  My buddy grossly over-bought, talked me into hauling them off, saving him a landfill trip.  Starting to get on my nerves.  Take them and I'll throw in translucent panels for $1/ft.  The little tractor shed roofed with them is incredibly nice to work in.

            There's always craigslist...

Oh great one you tempt me.

I'm busy checking felons.  Missed a few I know here.  Maybe they need fixed addresses.  That's a scary site.  Rapist around the corner from my sister.  And a bunch of pedophiles in that upscale neighborhood.  Yeow.

BTW, you have any idea how to change signatures here?  I tried, didn't work, this time.  Maybe it's locked?  After one of our handlers liked that Sphere quote?

Lemme know when you're coming.  How could you refuse FREE splines?  I didn't.  Y'know those panels weigh next to nothing.  5'x8' I carried from the lumber shed, threw on the rafters, solo.  Real fast roofing, great light under them.  R-4 or so, better for sheds.

Could try to tie a pile on my mom's Taurus, drop them when we're through in a couple of weeks.  Seems like I've seen photos of similarly loaded cars...

Change yer signature by clicking on yer name then my preferences and you should be able to erase and put something new in there.

If not then you broke yer machine or a mod froze you for being a bad boy.

Hmmmm... appears to have worked this time.  I figured somebody thought Sphere's line funny/fitting and froze it.

Not like I was never in there before...
