I can’t find my table and formula to determine the saw settings for outside crown miters.
Big build up, about a foot high, so you can’t build a site specific jig for this one, have to do it flat
Can anyone help?
Thanks

There's a lot of calculators on the web. I used to like the one on Joe Fusco's website, but something happened to it and it's really awkard to use now.
Here's another one:
http://www.construction-resource.com/calculators/crown-molding.php
SBE Builders ... Crown Molding Angles ... lots of theory and calculators for cutting crown molding under different conditions.
Square Hung Fascia intersects Hip Rafter Foot Calculator ... select "Angle" mode, enter your spring angles in the "Rise" fields and the corner angle in the "Total Deck Angle" field. The "Fascia Miter" and "Fascia Bevel" are your crown molding angles.Joe Bartok
The bosch miter finder is only about $120 . It does all the calcs and measures the wall angle to.
If you have a big build up and any wall angles and/or spring angles that are not the norm, this tool will pay for itself the first day.
So true. I'm always running crown up rakes which makes for some funky angles. The Bosch always gets me through it nice and easy.View Image

Can you find the settings for your saw with the Bosch? Reason I ask is because I have one and I cut all my crown on the flat, I sorta have the angles memorized for common angles but for odd ones/one offs I resort to a cheat sheet - didnt know that was a function of the Bosch.

Doug, if you don't mind, I can answer that one for you. Yes it does tell you the bevel and miter settings for cutting on the flat. In fact, that's the tool's primary purpose. It's a big time saver for me where a large portion of the crown I install is cut to roof angles and not 'standard' 45's and 22.5's.View Image
Dude, he asked me- I wanted to answer him!
Doug, what he said.
My bad Jay.... I own ya one.View Image
Uh........... Thanks to both of ya's!
I got the thing as a gift and use it on stair work and other things but never knew that it did the miter saw settings, I'll have to play with it some.
I guess those directions have a purpose after all, gonna have to start looking at shid like that more often!
Thanks
Doug
I never had a problem with Joe Fusco's site but here is another if you cant find it on Joes place.
