Im having my backyard concrete deck replaced (So. Cal.)with new concrete and currnetly have an existing gas fire pit. My contractor is going to charge $1400 to build a replacement 30″x18″x18″ gas fire pit, this seems expensive for a small pit (with existing gas line), I want a 48x18x18. It seems possible to have him just “stub out” a gas line thru the concrete deck and build it myself (at a later date) on top of the new concrete deck, with concrete block and veneer it with rock. Any suggestions if I go that route? (length of threaded pipe sticking out of deck?, 3/4″ size?, drain/weep hole issues?, etc…this 1400 will break the budget Thanx in advance

Perhaps you could start by learning how you run gas line through concrete?
Some of that $1400 is for know what to do, some for materials, some knowing how to do it, and some for being able to do it well.
I don'r know if that figure is high or not, though.
