I’m in the early stages of installing a Craftsman garage door opener on an 8′ sectional overhead door. The installation manual calls for minimum 2″ clearance between the underside of the header bracket ( holds the rail over the door) and the highest travel point of the top door section. With the bracket positioned as high as possible there isn’t the specified clearance, but I’ve positioned the rail in its approximate location and there seems to be adequate clearance (approx. 11/2″ clearance) between the underside of the rail and the top of the door during its travel upwards.
Is anyone aware of any other clearance problems that I haven’t encountered yet? I suspect that Craftsman has a safety factor built into their installation instructions.

Is there a 800# with the install destructions?
There would be problems with the one piece door, cuz it would rotate up and hit the rail. The sectional door travels in the track and has no problem like that.
With all garage doors, it should have the spring balanced, so the door is not too hard to close or open.
