So, I wasted saturday roaming the home and garden show getting bombarded by sales pitches from desperate window salesfolk.
I did come across something interesting, though: the Owens Corning basement system:

I’ve been perpetually in the planning stages of our basement finishing project and I thought this was a clever solution. It’s OC insulation covered with fabric wall panels, the concept being that they breath, so the extra humidity and occasional water can escape.
Has anyone used this system? Anyone have thoughts on it? The only drawback I see is that it is really, really ugly. Unfortunately, that’s a bid drawback, but still, interesting idea.

As a followup, anyone ever use *any* sort of fabric wall panelling system? The more I thought about it, the more the 'breathable' wall concept in the basement made some sense. I just wonder if there is a visually pleasant version of the concept somewhere.
reminds me of this usg stuff we put on office partitions for noise control. 1 1/4 thick.listening for the secret.......searching for the sound...
I would bn concerned with how quickly moisture can escape; once mold gets started, it doeen't take much to keep it going.
My gut tells me not to finish an area that gets wet.
