I am looking at having to install a steel I beam flush in a ceiling. joist hangers on both sides. I did this once before and ended up packing both sides with ripped down 2×10. 2 on each side. so I could attach the hangers.
This beam is wider, the flange is 8″, so it would take 3 boards on each side to pack it out, and then thru bolt it.
There’s got to be a better way.

Simple. Weld brackets along the web before you put the beam in place. It's the same way if you wanted to connect steel beams to another steel beam.

Or
choose a hanger that can be welded to the top of the beam, or hung from packing on top of the beam.

Order it from "Better Header"
Order it from "Better Header" with it packed out already.
Thanks Joe. Went to the Better Header site. Some great products. Like you said they have I-beams all packed out and ready to go up. The charts didn't show the 10" one that I need, but they say they can do custom sizes. I will need to call them tomorrow and see what they can do, how much $, if they ship by me, and where to buy.
