Painful Skin Cracks – Fine Homebuilding 225, pp. 80
The dermatologist’s advice is great. In addition, tell Paul to put a drop of super glue on the crack. Let it dry for a minute or so (preferrably without sticking his fingers together). Then he can go back to work with no pain. The super glue will protect the crack and allow it to heal. Got this tip from my dermatologist. It works great.

I use a product called "Nu-Skin". It is a liquid bandage that works well though it takes multiple applications. (let it dry between apps)

Skin cracks
My Daughter has used Nu-Skin to help heal her pressures sores to good effect, but I've found that a super glue on big cracks is a more cost effective way get back to work quickly. I also wear nitrile exam type gloves when I'm doing light work, and under heavier gloves for rought work. Realy helps keep you hancs clean and from drying out. At night I slather Bag Balm on my fingers(especially the tips) and put on a pair of white cotton gloves. Yeah, the gloves look wierd, but I'm beyonk the point of worrying about how I look.
Painful Skin Cracks
Hi all, nu skin works but isn't durable AT ALL. In facts, it fails miserably for cracks on hands. I have had great success with Cyanoacrylate, (super glue), The best place to get it is at a hobby shop and get the thick version and if you are impatient like me, get the activator which will dry it almost instantly. The normal variety is too thin and gets everywhere.
I find that more often than not this CURES the crack for a good period of time as well as eliminated all the pain and soreness in around 24 hours.
Good Luck!
Here's what I do:
Take a nail file and sand any callous skin down around the split to aid in flexibility.
Trim any fingernails that might be adding to the irritation
Cut a 1/4" x 2" piece of masking tape and use it to tape the split closed. Try to start and finish the tape ends over the nail (it will stay better). Don't worry if you create folds in the tape because you'll not notice them when you are working. When it wears out, tear it off and put on another one. Keep some tape on the wound 24/7 until it heals.
Each evening, just before getting into bed, put a liberal amount of your favorite skin mosturizer on your fingers.
Using the tape to hold the wound closed speeds healing and minimizes the pain while you are working. Depending on how much you use your hands the masking tape may not last long but it's dirt cheap to replace. Once the splits are healed keep the vunerable areas sanded and mosturized during the dry season.
Hope that helps!
