Hi everyone, I am remodeling a house and there is a lot of wallpaper that is very out dated. Some of it is still in very good shape, by that I mean still very stuck to the wall. Can I paint over it rather than remove it? If so, what steps would I need to take?
Thanks

Hi, & welcome to BT.
I am opening myself up to LOTS of criticism, but I'm going to say it anyway...You can paint over the wallpapeer, & get reasonable results - but not the finish a purist would be happy with.
Prime it with a shellac-based primer, or the paint will blister. Also, prepare to curse yourself roundly if you ever do decide to remove it.
Good luck!
Shellac-based primer or oil-based primer. Oil is easier to work with, but either one will work to prevent the wallpaper from bleeding through and to keep a latex top coat from wrinkling or loosening the paper.
After the primer, you may want to spackle the seams.
Of course, it's not the "right" way to do things. You'll never get as good a job painting over wallpaper. I would try and remove the paper first. If it's going to be a nightmare, then paint over.
