Can you guys guide me in the right direction for purchasing a paint gun to be used to stain my deck and paint the interior of my house.
Are they compatible with both paint and stain?
Im thinking the time and paint saved will pay off the paint gun very quickly.
Thanks..

Paint guns are ok for both water and oil base paints, but you will pay a lot for solvents to clean the tools, hose and the tips. If this is once a decade paint for your own house, it may be better for you to just hand paint. Paint guns will have a lot of over spray so that you need to spend money on body suit, eye, ear and lung protection as well as covering everything in the house that should not be painted.
Guns (any brand) that have plastic parts are ok for weekend painter, but look for guns that have biggest filter. The paint filter usually slips into the handle and they usually vary in length. Don't buy from HD or such stores because several years down the line they may change the brand and you can't get replacement parts quickly. Try the local painter's store.
Even for outside, try paint mittens than sprayer, and always back brush after paint is sprayed. Hope this helps.
I don't know about your deck, I think you would be better off rolling that and get other parts with a brush. I think the spray gun would waste quite a bit of stain and also make a mess of everything nearby. I think the stain would be such a fine mist that it would not be the best option.
For paint, they work great although there is a little bit of a learning curve. Depending on what you are using for paint, just make sure what you want for a sprayer has a max tip size that can support that thickness of paint. If you use latex paint, they clean up quickly and very easily. For brands, check out graco and titan. The ones that support typical interior and exterior latex are the graco 390 and the titan 440. You might be able to get by with some smaller ones.
