any reason I need to back prime window jams ( ie moisture) or does it just get put up and primed and painted in place?

ounce of prevention and all that
and use oil or shellac base primer- water base makes the surface fuzzy
you can top coat with anything then
I do and I would just in case, easier now than replacing swollen jams latter.

I've never painted them, and don't think it's typically done. I can't say I've ever noticed it done. Sounds like wasted time.
That said, check with the manufacturer. Curious if they say different.
