I was driving by a commercial building here in Austin. It was maybe 4 stories high and all wood sheathed with OSB. They had painters spray painting the OSB white.
Does anyone have a guess to what they are doing that for?
I’ll be going by there on a regular basis so I’ll be able to tell you what other finishes go on.

They were out of OSB-colored paint?
If the OSB is going to remain exposed awhile, the paint will help it stand up to the weather a tad better.
I'm with you... giving it a little more resistance to the elements while construction progresses.

Not for what they pay painters around here.
I wonder if this is an emissivity barrier

It's a new green building method and they get a 30% rebate from the federal government.
Sounds like Kwame Kilpatrick's new house.
Maybe the contractor's cousin Chui the painter needed a bit of extra work?
I had a carpenter introduce me to sanded OSB the other day. Incredibly smooth, not the carpenter the OSB.
Maybe this new product is better in elements than the conventional stuff.

Are you sure it was paint?
We just did a job where they used a spray on weather barrier, that one was yellow but there may be other brands, colors.
NAIL IT !!!
No, Im not sure it is paint...that's why I'm posting the question. I did drive by again today (at 65 mph) and they had finished painting, set the windows and most of the roof is shingled. All the felt is installed. The pace of the building is normal for Austin and I don't think that this OSB will be exposed for much more than another few weeks. My guess is that it is going to get a stucco exterior.
I've never seen stucco on OSB for commercial buildings.
Austin loves Stucco. They do a lot of it here on apts and commercial.
