Sorry for the silly question, but here in So. California siding is rare. So the question is: do you paint the siding or the trim first? I’m using fiber-cement lap siding, and on the gables it butts up against the shiplap roof sheeting. The trim is only 7/8″ thick, so it’s pretty flush with the bottom edge of the siding.
I will be spraying as much as possible, as I’m trying to paint it myself in a day and a half (800 sq. ft. granny flat).
Thanks

personally, i'd rather cut in on the siding edges than cut in around the siding ends on the trim; so i would spray the perpendicular planes of the trim neverminding the overspray, and then cut in the ends of the siding with a brush before spraying the rest of the siding.
Cutting in something that is mostly on one plane is easier.
What my painters do is first prime. Then spray siding, then spray trim, then brush and cut in siding, then brush trim.
IMHO it'll be easier for you to spray all the same colour. If you need to pick out the trim in a different colour (which sure looks prettier), then go back and paint it afterwards.
BTW - if you don't have siding in So Cal, what stops the neighbours seeing the back of the drywall?
All the best...
To those who know - this may be obvious. To those who don't - I hope I've helped.
