I am looking for some advice for stripping paint off interior woodwork and windows.
My home is old, probably with lead-based paint, and apparently has both acrylic and oil based paints on the woodwork. As my first experiement, I stripped a door frame, trying several chemicals: Citrustrip, another “non toxic” variety, and the good old-fashioned toxic variety. None seemed to work especially well and in the end, my door frame is warped.
I would like to tackle the double-hung windows next, but am afraid the warping will ruin them. Is there a technique or product I am missing?

try a heat gun - - on windows I use a spackling knife to protect the glass from the heat - it is possible to crack the glass by applying too much heat in a small area - work on a non critical area and try to get a 'touch' where the paint is soft and scrapes easily, but doesn't burn - - may work, may not
It is extremely hard to strip paint in the vertical! take stuff off and set it horzontal and then really wet down the area to be stripped.. several applications are required and if you let things dry out before you get around to stripping them you'll have wasted that application..
Many applications are required and evan the most annal person won't get everything perfect.
Often you will spend as much for stripper as it would cost you to buy new..
Sending them out to a stripping company is another option. I was charged $80 per door, they get the paint and the varnish off.
