I have 2 square posts about 8ft tall on my front porch. I suspect they are 4×4 pressure treated wood posts. They are wrapped in white aluminum “trim”. I want to pretty up the post by adding some base trim and some top trim to the posts. Right now they are just plain square posts.
BTW, the white aluminum trim is fading faster than sunset in December.
Option 1: should I try to find some kind of trim that I can just nail onto the posts and then paint it all white? If so, any know of a product that is readily available or orderable thru a lumber yard or Home Depot/Lowes?
Or option 2: tear down the aluminum and buy a pvc/vinyl type product that encases the wood posts? I’ve seen some for round columns but not square columns.
The goal is to end up with more decorative columns for my colonial and have them maintenance free as possible (hence the pvc/vinyl option). Pressure washing the columns about once a year is all the maintenance I’d really like to do. I’ll do whatever maintenance it takes but I’d like a maintenance free solution if possible.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Lowe's near me in N. Florida carries a white vinyl "sleeve" that fits a 4 x 4" post perfectly... comes in 8' lengths. There are quite a few choices of vinyl trim available where ever you find vinyl siding... = Maintenance free posts!
