hello,
i have a client who’s looking to do a barebones kitchen update, so to speak. she has a friend who had a contractor refurbish some old woodwork in her house and she said the contractor painted the woodwork with a flat paint and then went over that with a varnish. my client said it looked amazing. so i’m wondering if anyone has any more information on that process??? latex or oil-based? what type of varnish or urethane? also, will the varnish yellow if it’s constantly scrubbed with a sponge? durability is key!!!
thanks for any and all information.

I would spray it with a white water base poly. It wont yellow and its very durable. I use enduro coat http://www.compliantspraysystems.com Spray it first white undercoater from enduro then 2 top coats of the poly. I would add a cross linker it according to enduro makes it 7 X's more water /scratch resistant.
But as for your orgininal questions....

I just did an overhaul of my kitchen, this included having some new cabs installed as well as keeping some of the existing. One of the things we struggled with was how to finish the new cabs to match the existing. So in the end we had a painter come in and spray all of the cabs (new and existing) and he used a lacquer based paint and finished with a lacquer based clear coat to give it more durability. We chose a satin finish so as not to have a glossy look. Here are some before and after shots I hope this helps. I will try and get some more closeup shots tonight. OK it appears that there is some issues with attachments right now. I will redo them and post in another message. -M

Dang. You like white or what? White everything. All white...
That was the old... We have no white in the new and that was part of the reason for the redo... I hated the white from day 1 and told DW that she would be wanting me to rip it all out in less than 10 years and well sure enough 9 years later I'm in the middle of an overhaul... -MSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? That's very beautiful, and well laid out. What kind of flooring do you have?
Actually your before would be a massive improvement over my current one.
The flooring is wide plank pine. I had to add a few new boards so what you see is semi sanded... The "before" shows what the finished floor should look like.SYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
Nice kitchen.
What counter top is that? It has a gold-flecked, sorta-topaz effect in the pictures as I see them. Is is a rich gold, or is that part of the ocher background of the kitchen coming through?
BTW, warm colors in a kitchen are so hard to picture sometimes. This can make them a "hard sell." Congrats for using what's bold in execution, but warm and inviting in practice.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Thanks, the counters are granite the exact variety escapes me right now. DW was the one that went with the colors, I build the walls she colors them... -MSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
