Any of y’all have any experience painting anodized aluminum? I’m looking at painting the interior of a mobile lab for the hospital where I work. The walls were finished in 4′ wide panels that have an anodized aluminum skin bonded to what looks like 3/16 masonite.
I’ve been told that it should accept the paint as it is, and I’ve been told that I need to prime with aircraft primer first (I can just imagine how much that would cost per gallon!). Any advice?

are you sure its anodized or is it powder coated.
if it's anodized, try your local auto paint store. they should have primers that will bond to it or it may need to be etched first, they should also have the chems for that.
if its powder coated, a good primer should bond to it .
what kind of paint are you thinking of? can you paint it with auto paints?

cheers. Ill buy.
I was told it was anodized, but now that you mention it it does look more like a powder coat. The coach builder is no longer in business, so I don't know who I could ask. My only source of information is a guy that used to work for said coach builder and is now servicing their products on his own. He's pretty knowledgable re this truck, but I'm going to double check with him about the finish.
I can't spray it, so auto paints are out. I'm going to brush on a top-quality enamel, probably oil-base for durability."You couldn't pay me to run into a burning house. I'm a VOLUNTEER!
if it's white it's probably powder coated. enamel will bond nicely if you clean it well with degreaser first.
im not positive but i think all anodized aluminum is tranlucent.Tmaxxx

It's not white, it's almond, but it doesn't have that "translucent" look you're talking about. I think you're right about that.
I can't get hold of my service guy, but the more I talk to you the more convinced I am that it's powder coated. Hmmmm.....
trout, thanks for the link. I'll have to check that out and see what they have available."You couldn't pay me to run into a burning house. I'm a VOLUNTEER!
