In our house are very loose-fitting, old, double-hung windows. The the channels in which the window slides on the jambs are painted, and the interior trim is the same color as the exterior trim.
Here’s the question: When painting the interior trim a different color than the exterior trim, where do you divide the color between interior and exterior on the jambs? On the outside of the parting bead, perhaps? HELP! I can’t figure this one out.

There's no such thing as a dumb question.
Are you planning to tighten up the windows? If so, you may need to replace the moulding, and you can paint it a nice white. Otherwise, I would paint the parting bead same as the interior colour on the 2 sides to where the outside window slides, and paint the "outside" the same colour as the exterior trim.
