Some like it.... and some don't
Depends on the effect you are going for. In most cases I prefer lighter ceilings.
But if you are trying for a cozier feel to a room, paint the ceiling and walls the same color to pull the ceiling down and vice versa
We went with "Pure White" for everything.
Goes well with hardwood floors, wood trims and doors and enhances the sunlight that shines through the windows.
This isn't for everybody, though.
But it works well in our house.
Depends on the color. I think putting a strong color on the ceiling is a risky venture. It can have a dramatic impact, more than some people might think. Doing the walls and ceiling in the same color might screw up perceptions of room size and ceiling height. But I'm only guessing, can't remember seeing a room done like that.
But if you're painting everything white or off-white, it will be boring or dramatic depending on furnishings, window treatments, and wall hangings.

One opinion:
If it is sawn wood (even alder) do not paint, stain. Otherwise, who cares?--chartruese and purple were about all my dear momma could not stand on a house?
- BTW, from an RG color blind common 'tater.
It's not purple, It's aubergine!
DW tried to sell me on that one, and what DW wants DW gets.
My boys and I are into model rockets. My oldest boy of 12 wants his ceiling painted dark blue so we can put the night sky on it. We have a stencil of the stars for the northern hemisphear. Then we will hang all the retired rockets from the ceiling.
To each his own.
think about the people, or the colours?
LOL
What is the situation. colour can define, uplift, enhance, snuggle, embolden, or repulse.
Ten or fifteen years ago it was all the rage to paint it all white over white with white trims and use art and fabrics to bring colour into a room. Now I see more colours on walls and some wall papers with only the ceilings white and more minimalistic drapes and furnishings. I like a soft flat or eggshell white ceiling regarless of wall colour.
Tell more about the situation at hand - or is this a generalised Q?
I was wondering if it was a generalized question also. Heres my take on it ;
I dont have any suggestions to a woman if its up to her . Of course I have my thoughts , but I have found that its better that she be happy with all decisions of her own , and if shes not , she cant convict me of anything. I" never " , " ever" , choose a color. I have a lot of experince that backs this up with women. Why would I want to be in a womans memory when I know fully well that she remembers every minute detail. FOREVER!
Now to my own records. I paint my rentals white ceilings and walls , or an off white . I spray ceilings and walls with out cutting in any thing. White allows me to charge for painting more often. I am able to inspect a rental more closely if given the white room for additional light. White will touch up better than any other color and can be matched [LOL] White has been a money maker for me, as it will do job after job with out having a bunch of colors to keep on hand. I probably have an inventory of forty gallons on hand all the time. I realize Im thinking like a male , thats why I keep my mouth shut .

Paint it whatever your wife wants, otherwise use "ceiling" paint. It has a slight bluish tinge that seems to look just right, and it is dead flat to hide defects. I find ceilings painted the wall color look funny in most cases - to me anyway.
