Hi there, I am looking for information on painting tile floors. I have heard it can be cone with epoxy paint, but can’t seem to find any brands that claim to do anything other than garage floors. The tile and grout are in excellent condition , I just don’t like the color and want a less expensive solution to replacement. Does any one have any experience woththis?
Thanks Vern

Hello newbie - welcome to Breaktime!
I've no experience with painting over ceramic tiles...never encountered anyone (yet) who has so am interested to see what other posters will tell you.
Could you please share in the meantime, what is the square footage of the tiled area that you're trying to deal with? as in, is this a long hallway of 20 ft2 or a room of 8x10' dimension? (what?)
One fast cheap alternative for a small room is to put an area rug over the tiled floor...

The dimensions are about 26x32 feet.
OK, so you've got 832 sq ft of tile you don't like the color of...
Sure hope someone who knows anything about "painting" ceramic tile & grout - can help you. Given ceramic tiles are fired to their glazed finish, I'm personally skeptical this can be done but hey, I learn something new every day so eager to see what comes of your query.
Also - seeing as I'm on tail end of a 50 sq ft ceramic tile removal job (on a concrete slab), which drove me to purchasing a Bosch SDS-plus rotary hammer and bits...(not for the tile removal as they popped out readily due to someone else's poor installation; but instead for the residual mortar/thinset removal) I hope you get some other feedback here that may allow you to avoid the time, energy and potential expense associated with a tear out like I've got going.DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
We have not attempted to paint a floor, but have successfully had sidewalls painted. The key seems to be the primer, then anything else can be overcoated and will adhere. I'm hoping I remember the name properly of the primer (spelling may not be right)- XM primer. We've overcoated with epoxy. Both were sprayed.

I tried it. I'll quote here what I posted in the other thread:
"OK, so I tried that too. Good enough adhesion for a wall. About like the other primers I tried, maybe just a wee bit better. But not nearly good enough that I would consider using it on a floor."

I saw that link, but in it you said that you used UMA bonder.

Right. UMA (Urethane Modified Acrylic) by XIM: http://www.ximbonder.com/products_detail.asp?id=33

What I linked to is a 2 part epoxy primer and an etchant. Not saying that it would work either. But it is specifically for tile.
Oops. Sorry for not taking a more careful look at your links. It looks like a method (etch, epoxy primer, epoxy finish) that is much more likely to work than the UMA primer.

Here's a thread specifically about painting tile. Take a look. There may be epoxy products out there (such as used to repair porcelain tubs), but I don't think that there are any paints that will work.
