What difference in a mini can in exterior soffit. Need light spread and some decent brightness per wattage. These cans are to light a walk. Distance above walk varies from 5′ to 9′. Center of can about 4′-5′ from walk.
thanks

"Need light spread and some decent brightness per wattage. "
Realise that the larger the spread the less brightness that you get for the same wattage.
I don't have time to look it up now, but GE has an downloadable catalog with lots specs.
The par lights are optically more accurate as the filament is insert from the front and then a separate lens installed.
I know that the par's are availing in a number of bean spreads. Have to look and see if the R are also.
But what size bulbs will the cans take?
You need that as a starting point.
Also look in the yellow pages and see if you have any light bulb distributors in town and go to them.
They will take up to a 60 par.
Wish the back 9 at Riverby was in that range.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

"They will take up to a 60 par.Wish the back 9 at Riverby was in that range."that's cause you're using the wrong system for determining par. Need to use the correct methods to achieve your desired results.par = coming home with the same number of golf balls you left withunder par, count one for each golf ball more than you started withover par, count one for each golf ball fewer than you started with.oh, don't forget to tell people how you score ONLY if they askthe pencil is the most important wood for achieving a good score.

"They will take up to a 60 par."That is a VERY LARGE BULB.The common 75-100 watt floods or PAR 36.Light bulbs have three designations. The type or shape, the physical size and the wattage. And the size is give in 1/8".Common incandenscents are A bulbs. A19 for small watttages and A21.T is tubular. Such as flourscents, but also things like piano lights.T!2 are 1.5" diameter, the size of the standard flourscents. T8's are 1" and the new smaller dia bulbs.Look at the label and see what it says, but in wattage and type.
I used commercial electric 4" pots (HD, 6 pack, ~$10 a piece) and CF spots in my soffit and love them. There is a lower temperate limit on CFs, but I'm in the great white north and haven't had a problem. I think the lights are 14 w but put out the equivalent 75 w incandescent.
Thanks wane. Appreciate the information.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Juno Lighting's residential lighting products catalog, in its very last section, has photometric data on most all lamps that can go into their line voltage and low voltage recessed fixtures. R lamps, PAR lamps, MR lamps, you name it, they are all there.
It is an excellent resource. I have one in hardcopy, but you can download the catalog, all 80-some pages of it and almost 9 megs, by going to Juno's site.
Beam spreads, intensity at distances, light color, all are tabled there. Good luck.
