Parging the face of a poured wall
Yep… got a few rock pockets in a place where they can’t be. I assume the answer is stucco and I’m handy enough with plasters and muds and the like. What’s the tool for applying it, a steel trowel, a grout float, a wood float, something else? Any tips on mixing the material? I can buy sand, stucco, cement, mason’s mix… that’s about what I can get locally… there are no masonry suppliers anywhere near here. Wall was poured yesterday. The area in question is quite small, maybe 6″ tall by 8′ long.

If the wall is still green, rub it a concrete stone and alot of water, it will slick it out. if really really green, steel trowel it.
A rich mix of sand, portand cement and a bit of lime, parged on with a rubber trowel can make a nice durable finish.
Actually, you can just add a couple shovels of portand cement to an 80 lb. bag of mortar mix ("spec. mix" works well and has some lime in it) and use the rubber trowel. Mix it a little on the dry side.
Would stucco be an acceptable substitute? I need about a total of 2 shovels-full, and would rather not buy a bag each of mortar and portland... they'll turn into rocks before I use the rest, and then I'll have to figure out how to dispose of them.
I would think so, though I've never tried a stucco mix in that application, but it's essentially a similar mix.
I will say, the rubber trowel really is effective for filling in the alligators and spreading the mix to a feather edge.
Also, by just doing spot patches, it's going to look blotchy.....I don't know if that matters....if so, you might find it's not that difficult to parge the whole wall

Stucco would be fine. Make sure the surface you're applying to has enough tooth to it. Give it a little milk additive to strenghten it and help with the adhesian. Steel trowel or rubber would be fine.
Would that be whole milk, 2%, or skim?

Blue, that would be some of those little plastic containers of coffee creamer from Dunkin Dognuts.
About a handful should do it.

I use skim in order to keep my girlish figure. Just make sure it's fresh, otherwise you have to throw the whole mix out and start over.
stucco is mortar, a type N mortar. alot of peopl add a little lime to the mix, makes it creamy.
