I need to patch a wood shingle roof. The patch is about the size of a basketball. My local lumberyard says the smallest amount they can get their hands on is a pallet load.
I am going to make some more phone calls, and possibly check-out craigs list, any ideas where to get small quantities of this material?
What is it like to work with? Is is similar to weaving in composition shingle, or is this something for a full-time roofer?
Thanks

When you say wood shingles, do you mean wood shakes? You should be able to get a few shakes from a roofing company. I've also bought shakes by the bundle from a lumber yard.
If you aren't familiar with shake roof construction, you might be better off having it done by a roofer. You'll probably need to fix the roofing felt under the shakes (and over the sheathing), and that has to be done right or you'll have leaks.

He probably meant what he said. Wood shingles are sawn. Wood shakes are split. They are two different things.

Sometimes, when I lie in bed at night and look up at the stars, I think to myself, "Man! I really need to fix that roof."
Other than sawn v.s. split, I don't see much difference in that link you provided. It looks like either one would be installed - or repaired - the same way.
When I had a shake roof, I would walk it every winter when I hung the Xmas lights and patch any bad spots I found. I kept a bundle of shakes handy and it lasted about ten years.
I did it in winter because walking on shakes in the summer sounded like a popcorn popper. Until they were a little damp from some rain, almost every step split some.

Yeah, that's somewhat correct. But, one would have to buy the correct material before the repairs can begin. That's what I'm taking issue with concerning your reply. http://grantlogan.net/
