I’m hoping to crack open an exterior wall this weekend to patch some badly damaged rock lath on an exterior wall. Easy enough. But when I cut out the damaged section of the wall, I imagine most of the insulation will fall out or get messed up.
I’m not sure what’s behind the wall now, but I do know there is blown cellulose in there, and maybe an original FG batt. The rotozip’s gonna destroy the FG kraft face if its there, anyway.
What do I refill this space with so as not to leave any gaps? The section to be removed is about a 2’x5′ piece. The doorbell wires run through it. Do I need to cut out more so I can put in FG carefully to the plates? Can I use foam board between the studs?
Thanks

If theres cellulose back there, just blow in more from above when your done patching. if its batts, then don't sweat it, they probably weren't doing any good in the first place (heh, heh). Where's the house?
House is in Eastern Massachusetts. I agree, the FG probably isn't doing any good, if its there. But I don't want to rent a blowing machine just to refill one or two stud bays with cellulose - not a big patch.
Hope its not uncouth to bump yourself.
Is there some way to do this without renting an insulation blower to put in more cellulose?
