I need to fill several 1/2″ holes in a 2×8 ledger board. Any suggestions on what would work best? The board will be primed and painted so I am not worried about the finish. I just need a durable patch that will take paint and stand up to temperature extremes.

Without seeing the specific situation or fully understanding the expected results; I'll tell you that my first thought in these cases is to use some dowel - just glue it into the holes with waterproof glue (Gorrilla, rosencore, epoxy), cut it flush and belt-sand, then smooth it out with some two-part epoxy filler before painting.
