I just finished working on a home for a disabled Iraq war vet in CT through an organization called Homes For Our Troops. Everything is donated except land. They have built or refit 20 homes across the US for returning service members. Its a great organization – get involved if one comes to your area – check their website homesforouttroops.org

Thanks Steve, I'll bookmark that web site.
Did you meet the vet?

I met the vet twice, once when framing his deck and once again at the turnover ceremony. His name is Brian Johnston SGT in Marines. Lost his right arm and right leg but walks with a peg foot.
I have worked Habitat, Christmas in April but this is the greatest volunteer project ever, I am totally hooked. I am told that there is a group of retires folk who travel from site to site in Winnebagos and build one after another while their wives sew quilts for the vets home. Great stories
That's real nice that you could meey the vet. Like Habitat, putting a face to the house makes quite a difference."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

They just finished up one a bit West of me. The town sold the land for a few dollars ($3 or so). Fully handicapped accesible modern home. Beautiful. I would love to help out on a job like that.
...that's not a mistake, it's rustic
Went to the website. Interesting, but you might want to change the spelling on your post for the site.
They don't hav anything going on right now in my state. I may go into an adjacent state and try something out. Not really looking to travel though. (Wonder how many of the vets had the same thought...)
