PC 8529 Speed control problem

webby | Posted in Tools for Home Building on July 28, 2010 08:59am

Hi Everyone,

I went to use my PC 8529 today which has very little time on it, and the router speed control is not functioning the router runs sporadically, and slowly.

After looking at the PC website, it looks like the part is not available anymore. Do I have any options to at least make the router run at single speed?

Any help would be appreciated.

First thing to do is to work the speed control knob/lever back and forth a dozen or so times.  If that doesn't do it, see if you can get close enough to the control to blow some contact cleaner (from Radio Shack) into it.  (DO NOT use WD-40 or the like!)

Ok thanks good idea. I will get some contact cleaner and try it. I blew it with compressed air, to no avail.

        Update:

The contact cleaner didn't work,  but..

The router is fixed. I had to cut out the circuit board so the router is just full speed now.

If any one else has this problem here is what I did. This is the factory setup.

Cord hot - to the switch

Cord Neutral, to the circuit board

White wire from brush to switch other side.

Red wire from brush to circuit board.

Black wire from switch other side to circuit board. This apparently is an Electronic Feedback wire. Very small in gauge like 18 or 20

I removed the Feedback wire totally, and discarded. I noticed that the brushes were interconnected via a black wire along the winding.

        So I now have

        Cord hot- to switch

White wire from brush to switch other side.

Cord neutral to the red brush wire. Wire nutted them together.

Router runs fine and I cut eight mortises no problem.
