I am doing a small addition, Bay window & French door, which of these manufacturers do you prefer, and why ? or is there another prefered window manufacturer ? Thanks.

Loewen or Marvin. I get slightly better prices on Loewen and they're fir, so that's what I've been using. I'm not sure how common they are outside of the NW or west coast.
We installed Andersen about 7 years ago, narrowline windows, french door and 8' slider. All are performing fine and I was able to get a replacement lower window with no problems a few years ago when a couple of bored teenagers shot it out with a slingshot & rock. That reminds me, I still need to finish painting the sash!
I had a problem a few months ago with some Andersen "Frenchwood" patio doors. The lower latch on the active door would swing out part way and "ding" the edge of the passive door when it was being closed. If you check the archives, you may find the thread.
Apparently, Andersen had changed the design of the three point latch mechanism and had received several complaints. The homeowner was dealing with Andersen and I haven't heard how the problem was resolved - or if it has been.
Anderson. I've gotten replacement parts on 70 year old Anderson windows. That will be a real plus when you need something years from now.
I like Andersen - have put in 3 hoses and each time I ask Pella for a price - it is not competitive and I have heard that Pella does not hold up like Andersen. If I have a problem, Andersen is quick to respond. I think that the tilt-ins are very good.
Thanks for the reply, that's the kind of info. I am looking for, I think the customer service aspect is very important, and brings customers back.Robert
