I’ve got a pella storm door and both closers went and died.
So I called my local pella store and was told they don’t do replacement parts (how strange), so I went to Lowe’s.
Apparently Pella storm doors are now Larson, so they ordered a “touch’n hold” replacement (two of them).
Unfortunately I have the hunter green color so it’s a special order.
Anyway, the new closers are about 1.5-2.0 inches shorter in length than the old ones.
As a result, you cannot open the door all the way. (maybe about a 75 degree, whereas with the old ones I could open 90 degree)
Is this just how they are made nowadays?

I'd take a look at the new doors and see if the closer has moved closer to the hinge.
If you move the closer and the arm closer to the the hinge it would still open 90*.
Do they have a new door on display at lowes?
That still won't solve you problem. If you keep the holes where they are you need a longer closer.

Buy one that will fit at a hardware store and rattle paint it the color that you want.
I was sent out buy the local lumber yard to install a storm door that they sold to a customer that walked in and said he wanted to buy a storm door. I went out to the costumers' house to do the install and called the salesman up to come and pick up the door. The exterior door was a Pella. Pella makes their exterior metal clad doors so you can only install a Pella storm door on them. I'll have to check out the larsons now.
