I installed a couple of standard wood entry doors in jambs, sills and shoes are roughly what is shown in the attached pics. The sills have raised ribs along their tops, barely visible in the pics but they’re there. I suppose the idea is that they help get a better seal? Anyway, last year (one year after install) the owner mentioned that there were little pieces of the seal coming off and laying on the floor. I checked it out and sure enough, the little vinyl “fingers” on the seal were being rubbed off by friction with the sill. I replaced the seals and adjusted the shoes up as high as possible without opening up a gap, to reduce friction to a minimum. This year they’re being destroyed again. Talked to Pemko about it and they say there should be no such problem, these products are designed to work together. They also say they make a neoprene seal that could be swapped out for the vinyl. Any ideas? At this point I may get some 1/8″ thick bronze anodized flat stock and simply cap the sills to get rid of the ribs, and then raise the shoes another 1/8″.
