Back in August 2005, I made a posting asking for help with setting posts for my planned pergola. http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=61980.1
Today I finished getting all of the wood in place. Tasks left are to build a jig for my router so I can give the posts a fluted column look as well as ease the corners of the posts. Finishing the stone wall will come next.
The attached pictures show today’s status. For those who might be interested, the following link will take you to the history of the build.<!—-><!—-><!—->

That's very nice work. I really like the rafter tails. Is that PT lumber. It looks a lot better than the stuff I can get around here. How did you cut the tails? I also looks like you eased the edges. Cutting and easing must have taken quite a while. Did you put a finish on there already?

Yes, the lumber is PT.
I have always had trouble cutting thick stock with a jig saw and keeping the cut square to the surface. For this project, I decided not to fight that short coming. After deciding on the design, I made two templates, one for 2x6 and one for 2x8, out of MDF. I roughed the cut with the jig saw and then squared it up with a router using a flush trimming bit with a pilot bearing. With the jig saw cut now square, I ran a corner round bit with pilot bearing around all edges. A lot of work, but I like the final look.
There is no finish on it yet but I plan on putting on a transparent stain.
It looks very good, real nice!

All I can say is
WOW!

impressive..
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Stunning. And beautiful gardens, too.

Great work. There's some nice grain in those posts. Maybe you can save yourself a lot of work by just going with the chamfer corners. I've found that fluting and other details don't show up so well with a natural finish, it seems the darker the surface the less apparent the details become. Hope you don't mind my 2 cents.
Thanks for the 2 cents; I am not looking forward to the fluting. I have a leftover post, I think I will take your suggestion and see what it looks like.
