Hello all,
I built an 11’l x 2’d x 61/2″ h 4 drawer unit for a family of six (four kids – four drawers, bsically a big ‘ol 11’ long desk) in a basement yesterday. I bought 2 newell posts, cut the top off and turned them upside down for table legs (one for the middle, one for the end – the other end butts a wall). This unit is over tile and a concrete floor, and with 4 young kids, I am sure these legs will be kicked and run into many times. With granite going on top, this could be catastrophic for the unlucky individual wh gets under the unit with no supports. The question:
Is liquid nails going to be enough? Is there another adhesive out there that may work better? I contemplated drilling into the tile, inserting an allthread, drilling the bottom of the leg, etc, etc. I am assuming that would be best…what do ya think. Thanks for any ideas.

I do both....
a pin drilled in would be my choice, but you want to be darn sure there is no radiant heat tubing in that slab first.

There's no radiant there. I had a feeling I was going to be drilling some holes, just needed re-assurance. I think I'm just going to use 1/4 or 3/8 pins, 6" long with half in the slab/tile, since it will just be stopping it moving back/forth - side/side. The weight of the granite along with the glue will keep it in place for the most part...agreed

1/4" pin could bend or fracture the surronding materials in a hard blow too easily. I'd go with at least 3/8", or 1/2", but should only need about 1-1/2" in the holes.

good point...1/2" hole in the tile...3/8 in the concrete and leg...glue all...not much chance of tile fracture of the tile then, eh?No Coffee No Workee!
