Must PEX connectors be the same brand as the PEX tubing? For instance, if the tubing is made by Uponer, is it ok to use Zurn crimps, or must the Uponer expanding system be used?

Ductape can fix EVERYTHING!!!
Yes & no.
Other connectors can connect Uponor, but I wouldn't trust using Uponor's expansion system with a competitors pex.

I'll second that.
it does work with other PEX-A pipe I am aware of.-------------------------------------

But would you trust & warranty a Uponor expansion ring on a competitors pex pipe?

Not to mention no warranty on wirsbo/uponor if their connectors are not used.
True, but I wouldn't have a problem with using a compression style connector on Uponor.
I prefer the Uponor expansion system, but I'd be leary of using another brand of pipe with Uponor rings.

true enough, if you like the expansion fittings you should go ahead and use uponor pipe. that doesn't mean it doesn't work with other pipes, but yeah, why risk it?-------------------------------------

It's the only pex we use, we order it 10,000' at a time.
The Viega salesman who supplies our Propress fittings is trying to get us to switch to Vanguard, which we might do for our next highrise, but they have to sweeten the pot a bunch.

I didn't know that PEX was legal in high rises?

Yeah, but only for small feeder lines.
We use Stainless cold water mains 2.5" to 8" & copper for the hot water.
We feed the mains to pex manifolds for each unit.

Why not stainless for hot?
I haven't researched the reasons behind it yet, & when I asked the inspectors why we couldn't use stainless on the hot they didn't want to talk to me.
We switched to large bore stainless when copper shot through the roof.
6" pipe is running about 50% of the cost of copper & SS sch 10 weighs less than type "L" copper so the labor is less too.

Bill, What method for joining the ss pipe and fittings is used?
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
We vic it.
If you have seen commercial fire sprinkler systems with black pipe & orange couplings it's the same thing.

Thanks, I didn't know the name of that style of coupling. You are right though I have seen it a lot.

NRTRob.
Does anybody other than Wirsebo offer fittings that will work on Wiresbo? I've got some lines I can't connect because I no longer have access to my Wirsebo source.
for regular pex products, any fitting made for a pipe with the same ASTM rating should work. especially crimp or compression fittings are fairly forgiving; it's the connection to the manifold that might be problematic in some cases.wirsbo has a proprietary expansion fitting system that is a bit more 'esoteric', and using THAT fitting system with other brands of pipe would be a bit more iffy.-------------------------------------

NRTRob,
So When I order your manifold, pumps etc. You can point me in the right direction? I'll also be connecting my other pex I bought locally and hopefully that won't be a problem mixing differant brands of pex..
generally mixing regular pex brands is not a problem. just mixing fittings with manifold manufacturers can be tricky. pex-al-pex is a little tricky sometimes too. But regular pex, plenty forgiving.-------------------------------------

Any crimp or cinch connectors will work on any PEX of the same size.
