Lacquer thinner will clean the sap. Shellac or B-I-N which is a pigmented shellac should seal it. If it bleeds badly try at least two coats of BIN or shellac.

We put some 1X4 pine jamb extensions in a house last week. In one spot, there is some sap seeping out of a knot. It's running down the paint, and the homeowner isn't happy with it.
What's the best way to clean up the sap ? Is there any way to keep more sap from seeping out ?
*Ron,Shellac will seal the knots for painting and prevent them from bleeding through.Maybe someone else has something special to block the sap.Gabe
