I would like to use 1 1/4″ or 1 5/8″ dia. galv. pipe(similar to chainlink posts and rails) as railing around my deck. I do not want to bore holes in the posts(4x4s & 4x6s)nor do I want to attach a bored “cleat” to the posts to accept the pipe. What I am looking for is a low profile ring or escutcheon that can be screwed(blind if possible)to the posts. Anybody seen anything like that?
Any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of is a pipe flange for either 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" pipe. Comes threaded for NPT threads and has screw holes on outside. Won't work with thinwall pipe-you'll have to use standard size pipe or rigid conduit. Check electrical/plumbing supply.
*If you've got a boating or sailing supply store near you, stop in there. They usually have all kinds of neat stuff like that.

Could also look into closet rod holders. Don't know if they're the right size, but I think they're the right shape.

mach....
we did 2 inch diam. pipe .. are u shur you want to go 1.25 er 1.62 ?
the kids and others like to climb them and the lighter rail will tend to bend...
also.. the pipe flange is what u want...
but..
a 6x6 post bored to receive the pipe will really look superior..
my favorite rail system for some applications.. too bad, with the new code we can't do any horizontal (((climbable ))) rail system...
all strictly vertical, or solid, or a mesh so small a little sneaker cannot get into it....

Mr. Smith,
Bored rails it is. I checked into all the other suggestions...it seems that a little disassembly of my deck to get the rails installed will be the most affordable and attractive way to go.Thank you.
