Pipe works well for rolling heavy objects, preferably on something firm enough to support the pipe.
The easier way uses hydraulics of some sort. I like my guy, but not everybody has one:PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Back hoe with a sling. Or get whoever delivers the stone to put it in place with whatever he's using to get it off his truck.
Engine hoist. Clear 2x8s on the flat will hold 300# with a 5' span. 1/2"ply will support it across the lawn.
