I am building a 16 x 32 workshop that will have a wood (oak planks nailed over OSB subfloor) floor. The construction is typical 6 x 6 posts in-ground and the bottom of the 2 x 10 treated floor joists will end up about 6″ above the ground. The opinions here are about 50/50 as to putting a plastic ground cover directly on the ground and covering that with gravel, or putting it on top of the floor joists, underneath the 5/8″ subfloor.
Where is the best location, or do I even need anything since the joists are treated. I don not plan on insulating the floor.

Don't put it between the flooring and joists which will prohibit the floor from breathing.
Six inches from the joists puts the osb around 16" from the ground so ease yer mind and just put some six mil plastic down there on the ground.
Is the perimeter of the 6inch crawlspace going to be exposed around the perimeter or enclosed?
Razzman,
It will be exposed. The workshop sits in a grove of trees and won't get a lot of breeze..but there should be some. Would you gravel over the plastic?
Thanks for your quick reply. I will be nailing this weekend

If it's not too late I'd raise the height up a little more under there.
Reason being there is a tremendous amount of storage capabilities waiting for your long lengths of lumber and such. Free storage.
If not, I don't think you'd have to cover the whole thing with gravel as much as the perimeter of the plastic to keep it from blowing around. Unless you are concerned with critters getting under there and messing things up.
Skunks might not like the higher exposed area as much.
heh heh
be getting you thinking
I just like the increased crawlspace height unless you are wanting lower for easy access in moving stuff in and out.

Razz,
Thanks for the tips...think I will forgo the gravel then except for the edges...I plan on putting a wire mesh around the perimeter with the bottom burried about a foot to keep out the skunks and coons...it is too late to raise the height...but youre right..I didn't want to step to high to get into the shop...plus I put an 8' porch running the whole length (32') on the front of it..with the floor to be flush with the shop floor....the shop looks like an old General Store...not by accident..
