Does anybody know of a good playset design you can build yourself. I’ve looked at several comercially available products but they seem underbuilt. I can see that after a few years of use they will be bent out of shape. Plus they are incredibly expensive. This would also make for a great article in Fine Homebuilding.

Not a bad idea for a suggestion to FHB...you outta post it over in the suggestions thread. I`ve been looking for a resource for plans as well. I`ll be interested in the responses here.

"DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE"
Build A Kids' Play Yard, by Jeff Beneke, is pretty good. Covers basic construction, safety issues, and has plans for a set with swings, monkey bar, and tower, as well as sandbox, picnic table, etc. With the information there, you could build your own configuration. I'm sure there are other books out there, and some may be better, but this one's not bad.
Some years ago I built our kids' set using one of the packages available at home centers and lumberyards, a present from their grandmother. If I had it to do again, I'd definitely plan and build from scratch.
I also think this would make a good FHB article.
