I want to make my children a big playground for christmas. Does anyone know of a good resource for playground design and parts? I have found a lot of kits where you buy a kit and then buy the wood. Most of the kits are several hunderd dollars. Plus I was looking for something more unique. I will probably end up going with one of these kits as a last resort, but I thought that I would try here first.

A "big playground" will cost you more than "a few hundred dollars" to build from scratch. The wood and bolts alone, using cheap PT lumber, will be at least $1500 for a playhouse such as the one in the first link. More for cedar or redwood. Stainless bolts in those sizes ain't cheap.
Bottom line is, if you can't design it, I'm guessing you're not a carpenter and it's highly unlikely that you will be able to build it from scratch between now and Christmas. Unless you can work on it full time.
