Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

I tried it out last week for the first time and really liked it. The detector has a feature that tells you how far to the right or left you need to adjust the beam and the unit itself has a dial so you can easily adjust the beam in small increments. Also for shooting stepdowns you don't have to stand on a ladder with the detector at the same height as the step the laser is on. We figured that when we got to the last step :-) Here are some pictures using the laser.

Tim, weren't you using your PLS5 to square stuff up? Does this do a better job? Looking at the PLS site just now I see they have a couple of new rotary lasers. Uh-oh....
Dave,
We are just trying out the PLS90. Still use the PLS5 and I think in that photo set there is a picture of Kyle and Matt using it to get layout.
I think that if you can afford both, buy both, but that is the first time we used the 90. It worked really well and there are features that I really like for squaring up, like using the detector. If I was doing concrete work, I think I'd like it too.
Hey Tim, I've been looking at the 90, and after I talked with Mike at PLS, I was under the impression if the laser was at the lowest end of the step-downs, and elevated above the tallest wall (step-up?), there'd be pretty much a continuous line down the foundation and up any steps. I see you guys using a level, and I'm confused again...course that doesn't take much, these days<G> "But to be honest some folks here have been pushing the envelope quite a bit with their unnecessary use if swear words. They just put a character in to replace a letter. But everyone knows what they're saying." Sancho
Snort,
That was the first time we used the laser. I don't think we needed the level, but I'm ont sure how far below level (horizontal) from the laser the detector will work. That is something we'll try out.
Normally I use the level to catch the dot from the PLS5 and then make sure the level is plumb and mark the concrete. When we got to the farthest step, I told Matt to try using the detector without getting on a ladder and it worked about 6' up on the level. I'll set it up this week if I get a chance and try it out.
That help make sense?
Yeah Tim, that does make sense, and it makes it sound like the 90 is pretty danged useful. Give that baby a workout, I still need a push to pull the trigger<G> "But to be honest some folks here have been pushing the envelope quite a bit with their unnecessary use if swear words.
