Folks,
You all have been kind enough to warn of the incompatibility of the two; do you have suggestions as to what to use instead of plumbers putty when installing a faucet?
Many thanks for your help.

clear silicone
Karl
What were you using the putty for on the faucet for?
I only use putty on cheap faucets under the base so they don't have that thin tinny sound.
I use Polyseamseal on all faucets to make a water tight seal to the base.
+1 on Polyseamseal.

Definitely my fave for setting plumbing fixtures- plumber was the one to turn me on to it. I also prefer it for my paint grade trim outs.
Does Polyseamseal come in clear? I like Lexel which does. I also use perma-gum which is a refrigeration product similar to plumber's putty but without the oils.

Yes it does come in clear.

I looked at the line card, which one do you use? I have the used the ultra sealant but normally stay away from silicone.
Did you see my hijack at the pex thread?
BobFor those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
I use the tub & tile ultra & the tub & Tile adhesive.
Remeber caulk with silicon is not the same as silicon caulk.
& yes I posted on the hijack.
I know, siliconized caulk is fine, it is pure silicone that I do not like for workability, paintability, ability to add to or touch up, and smell. It certainly has it's uses, just that I prefer the products like polyseamseal, siraflex, and Lexel. Lexel is not the most workable to get pretty caulk joints as it sets pretty quick. If you over work it with mineral spirits it tends to get wavy.
Also when I open a tube of silicone and do not use it all it seems to set up no matter how I try to seal it up.For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
Does anyone know if polyseamseal is available in Canada and in the Toronto area specifically?
That I do not know.
I mentioned this thread to my son, a plumber. He said that use of a sealant may void the mfg warranty on the fixture. He uses just the supplied gasket, says that is all that is needed (on the better fixtures), provided you don't screw up the install. Comments?
It could void the warranty on some faucets, some mfg's have strange rules covering that.
Some faucets just have that rigid plastic elongated washer that won't seal water tight.
Round base faucets that have the rubber washer seal great, but I like to throw in a lil dab of caulk to keep that crevasse filled to keep dirt out & prevent a place for fungus to occur.
Thanks very much for your words of wisdom. It is greatly appreciated by a DIY'er who is trying to stay out of trouble.
