Not sure this is the right board but…
I know that a toilet waste line needs to follow a 1/4″/ft slope so the liquids and solids don’t separate leaving the solids to , well, solidify.
Thing is – There’s an area in my job where I need to run a drop about a foot long on a 45 degree slope.
Will this “rapids” of a drop cause problems either with performance or inspection?
Thanks
Peter

yes you will failed in a heartbeat, they believe the water will outrun the solid, and leave a mess. What you do is drop straigh down till you can run 1/4 ft. Or use 90 and sweep (spiral) down.
Indeed.
It's a bit of a problem as I'm coing over an I beam and dropping just below joist level so the space is tight but I'll just have to be smarter than the pipe eh?
Thanks!!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Brownbagg - go ahead and use two 45's to make your offset - it's a steep enough drop that nothing will get left behind. In addition, if it ever plugs up downstream of the offset, it'll be much easier running a sewer rod through the two 45's than through two 90's. If you want to go steeper than 45º but not as steep as 90º , you could also use a pair of 1/6 bends - they'll give you a 60º slope.
There will be absolutely no problems with this. Anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.
Stay between 1/8 and 1/2" inch per foot (1/4" preferred). Or, to drop elevation, between 45 and 90 degrees. Two 45's has the advantage of being easier to snake through and keeping your cummulative bends down to a minimum.
When you need to "be smarter than the pipe", one trick is to use DWV copper. Expensive and you have to use the proper transitions, but, being about 0.5 to 0.75 inches less in diameter for the same size pipe, you can squeeze through some spots that ABS or cast iron won't. Soffits are another option to think about. And cast iron from an upstairs toilet helps with the noise downstairs.
