Hi,
Just throwing it out there and asking if anyone has any experience good or bad with Ply Gem Mira Aluminum Clad windows/doors. I built a new home and installed all Ply Gem Mira windows and doors and have been having issues ever since. I went with casements, over 4 have leaked due to improperly sealed frame miters. Also have had 5 sashes that clouded up when the seals failed on the glass. My faith in these windows is pretty much non-existent and I think I made a very bad decision. Is this normal or are these windows really that bad?
Thanks

Hi there,
I bought a home last August that has 20 of these windows you speak of. The windows and home are only 9 years old and 3 of the glass seals have failed causing excessive moisture and fogging in between the glass. I am hoping to get these replaced under warranty.
Hi,
It sounds like Ply Gem has some serious quality control issues with their insulated glass units. I replaced 7 sashes on my mira casements so far and they're less than 5 years old. Also had to replace one french door due to leaks. The windows aren't very thermally efficient and easily form condensation on the glass or on the aluminum frame on the inside of the weatherstrip. A lot of the wood is stained black from moist air hitting the cold aluminum frame even though it's thermally broken it isn't enough and water eventually ponds up and is absorbed by the wood components and stains. I wish I went with Andersen or if I could afford them, Marvin's. If you look at cross-sections of their windows you can see how they do not attached the aluminum cladding directly to the wood and have much better thermally broken frames. Hindsight's 20/20 and if nothing else I know what to look for now if I ever purchase new windows.
Also they recently redesigned the Mira casement line so if you do receive replacement sashes they don't look as nice as the orignials but hopefully they improved the quality control. I hope you have better luck with yours.
