I bought one of those no-name-brand (Central Pneumatic, I think) framing nailers that fires 3-1/2″ nails. I find on most occasions it double-fires, making for a dangerous situation. I’ve tried several adjustments and changed spring pressure, but to no avail. Its done this since new. Can his be fixed, or should I just pitch it?

I had a cheap finish nailer from the same people with he same problem. I pitched it.
You'll pitch it eventually, might as well do it now

Excellence is its own reward!
This is what I thought would happen with the one I bought.
Still using it after 4 years, and it double fires about as much as an expensive one.
I'm pretty sure I got lucky though. Have pals with the same problem you are having.
They have pitched theirs.
Every framing nailor double nails upon occasion.
Be aware of it and you will be fine. I am one of those people that doesn't believe that a person should shy away from the inexpensive tool isle because of occassional problems. On the other hand, if you are framing professionally, throw it away and buy a good one!
I think the "If you are framing professionally - throw it out" is about as good as it gets for advice here.
I'm a finish carpenter and only occasionally need a framing nailer - which is why I bought the el-cheapo model.
Remeber, though, whether a professional framer or whatever you're using it for...if yours or others safety is at risk, is there really a question whether you should toss it?No Coffee No Workee!
I would not, for the little use you are going to use it. Wear safety glasses and pay attention. You will be fine.
By the way, I have had the same problem with the best names in the business, Hitachi and Bostich.
These guns are usually set up to bump fire and if you don't have a firm grip and a good trigger finger they will double, simply from the recoil. You can get the positive placement kit that makes it a true semi auto. The finish gun I got from HF would double, no matter what you did.
Take it back, they will give you another.
I havn't had that problem with their guns, problem I had is with the combo stapler nailer, 18 guage is that the stapler kept jamming, the other worked fine!
Yard sale!
Some penny pinching SOB can buy it for $15 and be pleased as punch. Some people are purely price driven. Quality be darned. Might want to put a tag on it "needs adjustment" just to keep things (somewhat) honest. He will get what he paid for.
I bought a cheap pneumatic stapler and another time a cheap air chisel from Harbor Freight or similar. Both had a very limited life time. No more for me.
pitch it before the ER and doctor bills arrive....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Yeah i agree, pitch it, sell it, pawn it, just get rid of it before it gets you.
Someone on here posted a link to this place. I haven't used them yet but the prices are good.
