My wife saw some pocket door “locks” at a friend’s house the other day and now she is anxious to get some to keep the kids and dog out of our den. Apparently they pop out of the face of the door adjcent to the jam when the doors are closed. Some sort of bar protrudes from the face and prevent the door from being slid back into the pocket. The friend has not been able to identify a brand name or a source. Has anyone here heard or seen of such a lock/latch?
Thanks
Chris

JDRHI and TomT226,
Thanks for the links but what I am looking for is a little different. The latching mechanism apparently pops out perpindicular to the face of the door right next to the casing. It is not in the edge of the door and it is on the opposite side of the door from the finger pull. In other words it would only be visible if the door were completely closed. If the door were only part way closed the latch would be on the part of the door still hidden in the pocket.
Can your friend disassemble the lock and look for a brand? If not, post a pic as I'm sure someone will identify it for you.

I know exactly what you want. I have them on my doors. Push your finger, it toggles the little "bolt" out, and there is a small strike on the jamb for it to hit so the "bolt" cannot gouge the jamb. Here is an image.

Requires a mortise cut in the door stile.
Call my man Ron Horn at Woodward's Ace Hardware in Santa Ana, CA. They have a website with the toll-free number.
Tell Ron you want the Ives "jamb bolt" for a pocket door. He has them in just about all the finishes . . . polished brass, oilrubbed bronze, satin chrome, etc.
Low shipping charge. No tax unless you are in CA. Why waste gas driving to Lowe's or Depot for something they don't have?
They come with a teenie grommet that is to dress out a small thru hole you drill in the door adjacent the fitting. It is for flipping the bolt with a little piece of rigid wire if someone passes out inside with the door locked. I didn't use the ones I got.

Just ordered one for an upcoming trim job. We'll see how it works.

Gene,
That looks like the latch my wife described. I will order up a couple of them today. Thanks for your help.
