Pointers on repointing a rock basement

I just bought a house that needs the rock basement repointed,I’am not to far from starting this project and thought I would ask those in the know if there were any “points” of knowledge that any would share with me. It looks like a straight forward job, but I’am sure that some know a whole lot more than I about this. thanks for any insight.
