I’m replacing a horse hair plaster wall in my 100 year old house. I would like to insulate the wall. if i use kraft backed insulation can i put poly over it to help keep the drafts to a minimum or am i asking for problems?

I have heard that is double vapor barrier, and have seen an inspecter frown on it but not make it get removed.
Some one will be along shortly to set it straight ( or not).
As SHPERE wrote, you could be asking for problems when covering kraft with poly.
Use unfaced batts and poly.
Or, if you have a deal on kraft-faced batts, install them, then use a utility knife to slash the heck out of the kraft facing. Good way to get out your aggressions. Then put in the poly. If you have an inspector, tell him this is what you're going to do before you do it to preclude any possible confusion/problems come inspection day.
If the better of the vapor barriers is to the warm moist side of the home it shouldn't be a problem. Which in you case it would be using a 6 mil. poly, compared to a kraft back vapor barrier.

Which side will the kraft paper be on? Outside or insode?
And are you aware of the need for well fitted batt insulation?
Consider dense pack cellulose in an older house with the irregularitioes in framing they often have.
You might also want to poke around at the Old House Journal site - I dont go there much, but have found a lot of valuable info there on dealing with houses that age. (Just becasreful about disclosing removal of the plaster -they might try to talk you out of it.{G})
Tool Donations Sought
I'm matching tool donors to a church mission to Haiti - we're shipping a bus converted to a medical facility in (now it looks like) April and can fill it with clothes, tools and all sorts of stuff needed in that poorest of all countries. A few hand tools or power tools can provide a livelihood for an otherwise destitute family. Please email me if you have tools to donate.
Thanks to Jeff and David and Jim and Rich and Steven and Mark and Jason and Shep and Jen and Mike and Joe and Bill and Ken for their offers!
Several donations have arrived! Thanks and God bless!
Thanks for the imput. I aleady have cellulose in the walls( I don't know how dense it is...) I guess i could put poly right over that. again thanks for answering my question.
